Maspalomas-Playa del Ingles is a famous city resort at the southernmost edge of the Gran Canarias Island, part of the Canarias archipelago, which is located west of Morocco, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Due to its geographical position, it offers an exceptionally mild and sunny climate in winter, and summers that often turn incredibly hot.
The City center is compact, and getting around is easy as most of the sights are contained in a small area. You can easily explore walking by your own or with a friendly local Gaybassador to show you around.
For sure, you will not come to Maspalomas for the quality of its architecture,
as the city turned from a fishermen village to a world known beach resort in the 60’s and 70’s. Huge buildings were built in just a few years to accommodate thousands of north-European tourists craving for the sun.
However, you are in Spain, so even ugly blocks can look good with some sun and some shots of Tequila.
The island is one of the first gay destinations in Europe, especially in winter when the rest of the continent is freezing.
Gay area in Maspalomas
In the nineties, Maspalomas was no longer a popular destination, but things have been changing for the last few years, many gay venues being completely refurbished in a more modern way.
You will not be for sure in over trendy (and expensive) Mykonos or Ibiza, but you can have a great time here, especially in Eden beach and turning around Yumbo area at night, with its dozens of gay venues and vivid gay crowds.
The city’s gay bars are famous for their drag queen shows, and even if you don’t speak Spanish and don’t get everything, you will laugh and have a great time for sure.
Maspalomas Gay pride in May, Fetish week in October, Bear week in March, and Winter Gay Pride in November are some of the main events during the year.
Though Maspalomas is a heated escape for gay people from Spain and all over Europe, the city can get busy all year round.
